# Importing a CSV

> Preparing and uploading a local file.

## Preparing the file

Importing your file requires some basic data preparation. Good preparation makes the
mapping steps that follow much faster.

A [template](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1r-_L29WHhsRHmAnnDxyi6GMS52k9juTS/view?usp=sharing)
is available to work from.

In addition to the email address, users should always have the Country and Language tags.
These are the only ones mandatory for launching a campaign. To improve relevancy, you can
also add Firstname, Lastname, Department, Seniority, Organisation, Industry, Function title
and Gender.

### What the file should look like

| Email address | Firstname | Lastname | Department | Seniority | Organisation | Industry | Function title | Gender | Country | Language |
| - | - | - | - | - | - | - | - | - | - | - |
| [a.dubois@acme.com](mailto:a.dubois@acme.com) | Anne | Dubois | Finance | Senior | Acme | Technology | Financial controller | Female | Belgium | Dutch |
| [m.okonkwo@acme.com](mailto:m.okonkwo@acme.com) | Mateo | Okonkwo | Sales | Medior | Acme | Technology | Account manager | Male | France | French |

Only the first, second-to-last and last columns are mandatory. Leave out any optional column
you cannot fill. An empty column is fine, but a column with only some rows filled makes the
mapping steps slower.

<Warning>
  Save the file as **CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited)**. Other CSV variants can mangle accented
  characters, which matters across our language markets.
</Warning>

## Uploading

In the import wizard, click **Local File** and select your `.csv` file.

After the import, a preview of the data appears. Check that the right data was uploaded. A
deeper look at the data and its columns comes later in the mapping steps.
