# Mapping column names

> Match the columns in your data to the columns on our platform.

This section outlines how to match the columns imported from your data with the predetermined
columns on our platform.

The step helps you align the data from the file with our platform. What matters here is
mapping the columns from your data source to the columns available on our platform. The
import wizard recognises certain column names and maps them accordingly, so a well-prepared
file arrives with much of this already done.

<Note>
  A column is the heading, not the values inside it. Here you are telling us that your
  `Dept` column is our **Department Name**. Matching the values within it, so that `Finance`
  means our Finance tag, happens in the next step, [Mapping column
  values](/mapping-column-values).
</Note>

## Mapping the rest

Columns that are not recognised can be mapped by clicking the input field and selecting the
corresponding tag.

If your data contains columns that are not relevant for phishing simulations, click the
**trash can** icon on the right to ignore them for tag mapping.

<Note>
  Data you have trashed is still available as a filter. If you do not want it imported at
  all, remove it from the data source instead.
</Note>

## Business function missing?

We use business functions as a tag to identify a target's function. These tags are
deliberately generalised, which makes it easier for our ethical phishers to target groups
rather than individuals.

When the pop-up appears, choose which of your columns aligns with business function. There
are two options:

| Your situation | Choose |
| - | - |
| Business functions in your file are fairly general | Function Title |
| Larger organisation with clear departments | Department Name |

Examples of how a function title becomes a tag:

* Social media manager becomes **Marketing**
* Account manager becomes **Sales**
